The Cloth

Our jacquard cottons are the definition of cosy. The cloth has a fine cotton top and a gauzy reverse. There is no batting in the middle, it’s instead made up of a series of thicker yarns which gives the fabric a lovely quilted feel. This fabric can be used for home and dressmaking projects.

PRODUCTION & CERTIFICATION

Our jacquard cotton range is made in India with 100% cotton. We are currently trying to move this base over to BCI cotton or an organic cotton base.

How to sew cotton jacquard

  • Jacquard cotton is suitable for beginner sewists and is a great alternative to sweatshirting.
  • The fabric is prone to fraying, so we would advise overlocking or zig-zagging all of your raw edges before sewing.
  • We recommend marking your notches with chalk on the wrong side.
  • As jacquard cotton has a square or geometric pattern on the cloth, you may choose to pattern match.

Fabric care

HOW TO PRE-WASH JACQUARD COTTON
Pre-wash the cloth in cool water with non-bio detergent on a gentle spin. For the first few washes, wash the cloth on its own with a handful of table salt in the drum. This will help fix the dye and prevent any dye from bleeding.

HOW TO DRY JACQUARD COTTON
Do not tumble. Shake out and dry flat. Do not dry in direct sunlight (we recommend not using this cloth for something that will sit in direct sunlight as it will bleach the fabric). Iron cool if needed.
